Audition for Flute (Principal)
1.Vacancy 1 Flutist (Principal)
2. Preliminary Round〔Preliminary Audition〕   Date and Time: Tuesday, May 28 and Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 10am (scheduled)
  Venue: Sapporo Art Park Art Hall Arena (2-chome, Geijutsu-no-mori, Minami-ku, Sapporo)
  Repertoire: (1) Mozart/Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major, 1st movement and 2nd movement (without cadenza)
        (2) Orchestra Study

<Precautions for preliminary audition>
※Repertoire (1) must be performed with a piano accompaniment. Pianist will be arranged by the orchestra. Applicant can also attend the audition with his/her accompanist. Any expense incurred in this case must be burnt by the applicant.
※Preliminary audition must be performed without prior rehearsal with a pianist. The accompanist will be using a score by Bärenreiter but the soloist can perform any other version.
※Scores for the orchestra study will be sent to you by post after the application is closed. Which to perform will be announced at the site.
How to apply / Deadline ●How to apply
 Download the application form from Sapporo Symphony Orchestra official website. Write in any requested items with the ID photo pasted, and sent it to the address noted in 6 below. The application form is not returnable.

●Deadline of the application
 Must arrive by Monday, April 22, 2024

●Result announcement
 The result will be notified to the applicant by Friday, June 7, 2024.
 (The result may notified to successful applicants by phone.)
Secondary and Final Audition 〔Secondary Audition〕
Date and Time: Monday, November 25, 2024 afternoon
Venue: Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara Large Rehearsal Room (1-15 Nakajima-koen, Chuo-ku Sapporo)
Repertoire: (1) Mozart/Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major, All movements with cadenza
      (2) Orchestra Study

3. Final Round (Audition by all the orchestra members)
  Date and Time: Tuesday, November 26, 2024 afternoon
Venue: Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara Large Rehearsal Room (1-15 Nakajima-koen, Chuo-ku Sapporo)
Repertoire: same as the secondary audition

<Precaution for the secondary audition and final round>
※Repertoire(1)must be performed with a piano accompaniment. Pianist will be arranged by the orchestra. Applicant can also attend the audition with his/her accompanist. Any expense incurred in this case must be burnt by the applicant. Rehearsal with the pianist is planned to take place in the morning of the audition date. Details will be informed on a later date.
※Scores for the orchestra study will be sent to you by post after the application is closed. Which to perform will be announced at the site.
※There will be an interview for those who attend the final round.

●Result announcement
 The result will be notified to the applicant by Monday, December 2, 2024 by post.
4. Salary and benefits Salary 193,400 yen (age 22) ~ plus Principal allowance
Basic salary based on the salary chart calculated upon salary based on the age and experience.
Additional Bonus twice a year
Housing, family, cold-area allowance, communicating and instrument allowances. Social welfare, employment insurance and retirement allowance are also available.
5. Employment starting date As soon as possible but negotiable
There will be 6-month probation before official employment.

Audition for Trumpet (Associate Principal)

2.Recording Audition (Primary audition) [Repertoire]
(1) Haydn Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major 1st movement (before cadenza)
With piano accompaniment (starting 5 bars before solo)
(2) G.P. Telemann Trumpet Concerto in D major 1st movement (Adagio)
With piano accompaniment
For Haydn, instrument should be B-♭, and for Telemann, piccolo trumpet


- The recordings must be done within 6 months before the date of application.
- Place track number before each piece.
- Recording must be done on CD. No other recording device is accepted.
- Check the recording before applying as it may be recorded low in volume or with excess echoes.

Download the application form from Sapporo Symphony Orchestra official website, and write in all the necessary information required together with your ID photograph. CD must be named and send to the below address noted in 6. (Application form and CD are not returnable.)

Result announcement of the CD-recording audition
Result will be sent by post no later than Friday, February 16, 2024.
(Examination is to be carried out in first half of February.)

Live audition repertoire
(1) Haydn Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major 1st movement (before cadenza)
With piano accompaniment (starting 5 bars before solo)
Must play with B-♭trumpet
(2) Orchestra excerpts are to be announced to those who attend the secondary audition.
There will be no restriction in the instrument.


- The orchestra will arrange a piano accompanist, but the applicant can also attend the audition with his/her accompanist. In this case, any fee incurred will be burnt by the applicant. There will be a rehearsal time with piano during the morning of each live audition day. Details will be notified on a later date.
- There will be an interview on the same day for those who attend the final auditions.
4. Salary and benefits Salary 193,400 JPY (age 22) plus associate principal allowance
Additional bonus twice a year (following the orchestra’s stipulate)
Other benefits: housing, family, cold-area, commuting and instrument.
Social welfare, unemployment insurance and retirement allowance are also available.
