Cello Audition
1. Vacancy One Violoncello (tutti)
2. Preliminary round (First round) Applicant must record and send the following repertoire in the order with track numbers on CD-R.

[Repertoire] Haydn Cello Concerto No.2 in D major, 1st movement (ed: Henle)
including cadenza of choice, and with piano accompaniment.


The recording must be made within 6 months before the date of application.
The recording must be made with piano accompaniment, and short passage at the start needs not to be recorded, i.e. can be cut on your judgement.
Place track numbers at the beginning of the work and at the beginning of cadenza.
The recording device must be CD-R (music recording only)
Confirm the content before submitting. Avoid low volume or any echo in the recording as this may affect the judgement.





How to apply Send the following documents together with your recording to the address noted in 6 by post.
Mark your name on CD-R.
The documents and recording are not returnable.

Live audition repertoire
(1) 1st movement of Haydn Cello Concerto No.2 in D major, 1st movement (ed: Henle) including cadenza of choice
(2) Orchestral study
(Details will be announced to those who passed the preliminary round.)

The orchestra will arrange a piano accompanist, but the applicant can also attend the audition with his/her accompanist. In this case, any fee incurred will be burnt by the applicant. More details will be informed on a later date.
There will be an interview for those who attend the final round on the same day.
4. Salary and Benefits Salary 191,900 JPY (age 22) to 247,600 JPY (age 35)
Additional bonus twice a year
Other benefits: housing, family, cold-area, commuting and instrument.
Social welfare, unemployment insurance and retirement allowance are also available.
5. Employment starting date January 2023, but negotiable
There will be 6-month probation before official employment.

Sapporo Symphony Orchestra Office Staff - Application to be accepted till Sept. 9
1. Vacancy One office staff in charge of administrative and/or operative matters
2. Number of applications One staff - expected to be recruited from April 2023
Eligibility - One who has passion to work for the orchestra (experience in working at the concert halls, management offices and/or orchestra office are preferable)
- Requirements
-- needs to have basic knowledge in classic music
-- have working experience using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other applications
-- have driving license with good driving skills
-- can speak and communicate in English
-- Fluent Japanese language ability equivalent to Senior High School graduate in Japan is essential (i.e. can read and understand what are written in Japanese 募集要項)
Working Conditions and Salary/Benefits - Salary 172,200 JPY (22 years old) negotiable to age and experience
- Allowances include Commuting, Housing, Dependent and Seasonal (
winter allowance from October to March)
- Working hours 9:30-18:00 weekdays, however this may change according to the concert schedule
- Off Days Saturday, Sunday and National Holidays, however depending on the concert date
- Paid holidays following the Labor Standards Act Article 39
- Health assurance, Welfare pension insurance, Workers' accident compensation insurance and Employment insurance available
- Probation: 6 months

Regime must be written in using a Japanese format and needs to be handwritten by black ink.
※The title of a short essay is: Role of music in current situation related to your application to Sapporo Symphony Orchestra (within 1000 Japanese letters)

To those who passed the preliminary round in documents examination will go to written examination and interview which is planned to take place in Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara on October 1, 2022.

<Precautions>
 ・Piano accompaniment is essential for concerto.
 ・Applicant can select any edition/publisher for concerto.
 ・Confirm the orchestra study by downloading the relevant page (PDF) from the orchestra’s official website, and when you upload your video, please upload other necessary information indicated below.
 ・The recording must be made within 6 months before the date of application.
 ・Video must be recorded transitionally and without any edited procedures. Angle of camera must be fixed at all times.
 ・Recorded video must include the instrument as a whole, face of the player and hands/fingers of the player.
 ・Recording can be done either standing or sitting position.
 ・If the video and the sound do not match, applicant may be disqualified.

Recorded video (1)(2)(3) must be uploaded to YouTube (limited entry). Each of uploaded information, URL and your name must be sent to the email address noted in 6, with the title of the email “Principal Flute Audition.” You also need to send your biography (written in the format preferably in Japanese biography format) by post together with your music career, URL of your YouTube and the date that you sent your email.

●Deadline of the application
Must reach Sapporo Symphony Orchestra by Monday, May 9, 2022. (Your YouTube upload, your email on the uploaded YouTube Information together with your biography and other information by post must reach our office by this date.)

●Preliminary Audition result
The result of your preliminary audition will be sent to you by Thursday, June 6 by post.
(Those who passed this audition may be notified to you by telephone.)
