The soloist who was scheduled to be with us for Subscription hitaru Concert Series Vol. 4 on February 25, 2021, is unable to join us at the concert because of entry restriction to Japan due to Japan’s State of Emergency not lifted.

Mr. Haruma Sato, cello, will be with us instead.

Program is to be changed as follows.

【Biography】

Haruma SATO, cello

Haruma Sato is one of the most brilliant and talented cellists of his generation.

In 2019, Haruma won first prize at the 68th ARD Music Competition in Munich and gained international attention. He is also a winner of the 67th Student Music Concours of Japan, the 83rd Music competition of Japan, the 13th Domenico-Gabrielli-competition in Berlin, and the 11th Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition.

He has performed with Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, and Japan's major orchestras, including Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, and Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, among many others.

He also appeared at several international festivals such as the Allegro Vivo Festival in Austria, International Mendelssohn Festival in Hamburg, the opening concert of the Summer Festival 2017 at Berlin University of the Arts and International Music Festival "Chopin and his Europe" 2018 in Warsaw.

Haruma Sato has also played numerous contemporary pieces, such as Schoenberg's "Pierrot lunaire" and "Stunden-Blumen -hommage à Olivier Messiaen-" written by Toshio Hosokawa.

Born in 1998 in Nagoya, Japan, Haruma took his first cello lesson at the age of six. After graduating from the music high school attached to the faculty of music, Tokyo University of the Arts, he is now studying with Jens Peter Maintz at the University of the Arts in Berlin. He took part in masterclasses with Frans Helmerson, David Geringas, Gustav Rivinius, Hans Jensen and Jean-Guihen Queyras.

He received the 18th Hideo Saito Music Award and the 30th Idemitsu Music Award.

He plays a Enrico Rocca cello from 1903 generously loaned by Munetsugu Collection.
