Elgar's Symphony No. 2 by Tadaaki Odaka. The unfortunate incident has made maestro to leave Sapporo in 2024 - now raises expectations for his performance. Ms. Manami Suzuki, who won first prize at the 12th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition and won the Audience Award and the Chamber Music Award, will perform Schumann's Piano Concerto.

Tadaaki OTAKA(conductor)

Japanese-born Tadaaki Otaka has been Music Director of Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra since April 2018 and, following a distinguished tenure as Principal Conductor of BBC National Orchestra of Wales, became their Conductor Laureate. This remarkable relationship with BBC NOW stretches back more than three decades and he has appeared with them each season since his debut. Long esteemed as one of Japan’s finest conductors, he also holds the titles of Permanent Conductor of the NHK Symphony, Conductor Laureate of Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Honorary Guest Conductor of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra and Honorary Conductor Laureate of Kioi Hall Chamber Orchestra Tokyo. He has had a close association with Sapporo Symphony Orchestra for four decades, leading highly-successful European tours and establishing them internationally as one of Japan’s leading ensembles; and since 2015 has served as their Honorary Music Director. Between 2009 and 2012 he served as Principal Guest Conductor of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and was Artistic Director of the New National Theatre, Tokyo (2010 to 2014). Mo. Otaka returns to Europe in March 2025 for performances with BBC NOW, featuring works by Bruch, Grace Williams and Rachmainov He continues to conduct extensively in Japan and is also a highly regarded teacher of young conductors, holding posts as Honorary Professor of the Tokyo University of the Arts, Visiting Professor of the Soai University and the Kyoto City University of Arts and Guest Professor of the Kunitachi College of Music. He combines these activities with regular European visits. Recent BBC NOW highlights include BBC Proms, and he also served on the juries of the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition in London, the Malko Competition in Copenhagen and the 18th Tokyo International Music Competition for Conducting.

Manami SUZUKI(1st Prize winner of the12th Hamamatsu Piano Competition)(piano)

Manami Suzuki is a multi-award-winning Japanese pianist. At just 22 years old, she made history in 2024 as the first Japanese pianist and the first female pianist to win the prestigious Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan, alongside the Chamber Music Award and Audience Prize. Suzuki has performed with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and over the next season she will make her debut with the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, Hamamatsu Symphony, Osaka Philharmonic and Gunma Symphony Orchestras. Her solo recital playing continues to flourish at internationally renowned venues and festivals including the Duszniki International Chopin Piano Festival in Warsaw, Kioi Hall in Tokyo, Beppu Argerich Music Festival, and Cincinnati Memorial Hall, Ohio, as well as her London debut at Kings Place. ​​Manami Suzuki was born in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, in 2002 where she started playing the piano at the age of four. After graduating from the music department of Osaka Prefectural Yuhigaoka High School, she graduated from the Tokyo College of Music (Piano Performer Course) as a scholarship student. She is currently a student at the Tokyo College of Music Graduate School Master Course as a special scholarship student. She won First Prize in the Hupfer Division of the 27th HUPFER Tosu Piano Competition and received Fourth Prize in the piano division of the 32nd Takarazuka Vega Music Competition. Every year since 2020, she has appeared in the “Tokyo College of Music Piano Concert by Piano Performers Course Outstanding Students”. She also participated in the Hamamatsu International Piano Academy 2023 and 2024. ​In August 2023, she received the Special Grand Prix and Audience Award at the 47th PTNA (Piano Teachers' National Association of Japan) Competition, as well as the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award and the Steinway Award. In October of the same year, Suzuki won First Prize in the piano section of the 92nd Music Competition of Japan, the Iwatani Prize (audience award), Nomura Prize, Iguchi Prize, Kawai Prize, Miyake Prize, Argerich Arts Foundation Prize, and INPEX Prize. Manami has studied with world-class pianists and piano professors such as Elisso Virsaladze, Ronan O’Hora, Markus Schirmer, Noriko Ogawa, and Luis Fernando Perez.
