Born in Kagoshima in 1969, Tatsuya Shimono cemented his international reputation as a conductor by winning the First Prize and the Hideo Saito Award at Tokyo International Music Competition for conducting in 2000 and the First Prize at the 47th Besançon International Competition in 2001. Since then he has guest conducted major orchestras such as Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Czech Philharmonic, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (OBC), Sinfonia Varsovia and NHK Symphony Orchestra among others. Shimono served as Resident Conductor and then Principal Guest Conductor of Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra (2006-2017), Guest conductor and then Principal Guest Conductor of Kyoto Symphony Orchestra (2014-2020), general music director of Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra (2017-2024) Shimono is currently holding the title of Music Director of Hiroshima Wind Orchestra since 2011, Permanent Conductor of NHK Symphony Orchestra since October 2023, Principal Guest Conductor of Sapporo Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Laureate of Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra since April 2024. In addition to his activity with orchestra he also regularly conducts Opera at New National Theatre Tokyo, Nissay Theatre and Nikikai Opera among others.
Graduated from Sapporo Otani Junior College Musician Vocal Music Course and completed the same major. Completed the Opera Training Institute of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. In 1998, she moved to Rome as an overseas trainee for artists of the Hokkaido Cultural Foundation, during which she won the Grand Prize at the Santa Margherita Ligure International Vocal Seminar and performed in "Rigoletto" Gilda. In 1999, she continued to study in Rome as an artist trainee dispatched by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Since then, she was Queen of the Night in "Magic Flute" with Tokyo Nikikai, and Hokkaido Nikikai, Tsuu in "Yuzuru" with Nissei Theater and Hokkaido Nikikai, Rosina in "The Barber of Seville," Flower Maiden in "Parsifal" with New National Theater, Karolca in "Yenufa," Nella in "Gianni Schicchi," Chef in "Night Cry" and has also performed as a member of MOZART SINGERS JAPAN. She is also active in recording and recipient of number of awards including the 1st prize at the 2nd Fujisawa Opera Competition, the 5th Dogin Arts and Culture Encouragement Award, Heisei 21 Otaru Culture Encouragement Award and Grand Prize at the Sapporo Civic Art Festival in Reiwa 2. Currently she is Professor at Sapporo Otani University and Niki-kai member
Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, received the Ataka Prize and the Toshi Matsuda Prize. After completing the solo singing course at the same graduate school, she devoted herself to study at the Milan Conservatory. Completed the vocal music major at Kunitachi College of Music and the opera course at the same graduate school. He has won many prizes, including first place in the vocal music category of the 88th Japan Music Competition. In 2016, he studied in Italy as a trainee under the Overseas Training Program for Emerging Artists of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. He made his European debut at the Tyrolean Festival Opera with Lindoro in "The Italian Woman of Algiers." After returning to Japan, he appeared in Bel Canto opera productions one after another, such as Tonio in "The Daughter of the Regiment", Nemorino in "The Elixir of Love", and Count Almaviva in "The Barber of Seville." In 2025, he will appear in Omiya Sonic City's new opera "Heike Monogatari ~Taira Kiyomori~" Minamoto Yoshitomo, Fujisawa Civic Center's "Shepherd's King" and Alessandro the Great. In 2026, he is scheduled to appear in the Fujisawa Civic Opera "Journey to Reims" as Count Liebenskov and the Nissei Theater "Don Giovanni" as Don Ottavio. He is a member of the Rossini Association of Japan. Lecturer at Musashino College of Music.
Graduated from the Department of Vocal Music, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts. Graduated from the same graduate school, majoring in vocal music (opera) at the Graduate School of Music. He moved to Italy in 2017. After studying in Milan, he was selected for the 56th Voice of Verdi International Competition in 2018 (Italy). In 2019, he won the 1st prize at the 10th Salvatore Licitra Vocal Competition (Italy), the first prize in the vocal category of the 20th Tokyo Music Competition in 2022, and the Audience Award. In 2025, he will appear in the title role of Frank in Lake Biwa Hall's "City of Death", Renato in the Japan Philharmonic's "Masquerade," and in Omiya Sonic City's new opera "Heike Monogatari ~Taira Kiyomori~." In 2026, he is scheduled to appear at the NHK New Year's Opera Concert, the nationwide co-production opera "The Elixir of Love" as Belcolé, and the title role of the Nissei Theater's "Don Giovanni." He received the 37th Himeji City Arts and Culture Encouragement Award, the 25th Sakai Tokitada Music Award, and the 2020 Hyogo Prefectural Arts Encouragement Award.
