【654th Subscription Concert】
Mr. Sorita, from Sapporo and who won the second prize at The XVIII International Chopin Piano Competition in 2021, has selected Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 for his collaboration with Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. We are honored to announce this, the first collaborative performance with the orchestra led by Mo. Hirokami who admires highly the talent of the pianist. The works that follow the annual theme “Night” are Debussy’s Ibelia “Perfumes of the Night,” and Ravel’s Rapsodie espagnole Prélude à la nuit (Prelude to the Night). Images pour orchestre by Debussy is composed with “Gigues,” “Iberia,” and “Rondes de printemps,” and “Ibelia” itself is performed with castanets, and other gorgeous and brilliant percussions full of Spanish sentiment, which includes 3 sections, one named “Perfumes of the Night.” Following this work is Rapsodie espagnole, composed a year before “Ibelia.” Ravel’s mother was from the Basque and Ravel himself is said to be brought up under the influence of Spanish folklore. Enjoy Spanish folklore and dance, Malaguena and Habanera.
