Mo. Matthias Bamert, who was to join us at the 634th Subscription Concert scheduled on January 22 and 23, 2021, is unable to enter Japan because of COVID-19 immigration regulation.

Mo. Eiji Oue will be conducting this concert.

There will be no change in the program.

【Biography】

Eiji Oue, conductor

Conductor Laureate of the Osaka Philharmonic, and Honorary Conductor of the NDR Radio Philharmonic in Hanover.

 Born in Hiroshima, Japan, Oue began piano lessons at the age of four, eventually entering the Toho Gakuen School of Music as a performance major where he began his conducting studies with Seiji Ozawa’s teacher Hideo Saito. In 1978, he was invited by Seiji Ozawa to spend a summer at the Tanglewood Music Center, and after which, he entered New England Conservatory. He studied under Larry Livingston and joined masterclasses of Claudio Abbado, Sir Colin Davis, and Kurt Mazur, completed the course receiving artist diploma. While Oue was in the Tanglewood, he met Leonard Bernstein, who became his long-time mentor and colleague. Amongst his many honours and awards are the 1980 Koussevitzky Prize at Tanglewood and the Hans Harin Gold Medal and the first prize at the 1981 Salzburg Mozarteum conducting competitions.

 After serving as the Associate Conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic and Music Director of Erie Philharmonic (1990-1995), Oue became Music Director of the Minnesota Orchestra (1995-2002) with which he toured Europe and Japan, both ended with the ultimate success. He was Music Director of Wyoming’s Grand Teton Music Festival (1997-2003), and Principal Conductor of NDR Radio Philharmonic in Hanover (1998-2003), later being presented the title of Honorary Conductor for his contribution to the orchestra. Oue was Music Director of Osaka Philharmonic (2003-2012) after Takashi Asahina, and of Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (2006-2009). He is Professor of Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hanover from 2000.
