SAPPORO SYMPHONY ORCHSTRA AUDITION


   Details of audition and how to apply are as follows:

1.Vacancy
Horn player (Associate Principal)

In principal, applicants must be under age of 40.

2. Preliminary Audition (Recording audition)
Repertoire should be recorded in the listed order with track numbers on CD-R.

[Audition Repertoire]

Instrument must be a "full-double horn" and not B-flat single nor discount horn. Applicant must place a name of the manufacture in resume.


(1)Mozart: 1st movement from Horn Concerto No. 4 in E-flat major K. 495 including cadenza
(2)The same work; 2nd movement

The recording must be made within 6 months before the date of application.
The recording must be made with piano accompaniment, but its introduction part can be shortened accordingly.
Place track numbers at start and beginning of cadenza.
The recording device must be CD-R (music recording only)
Confirm the content before submitting. Avoid low volume or any echo in the recording as this may affect the judgement.

How to apply / Deadline
Send the following documents together with your recording to the address noted in 6 by post.
Mark your name on CD-R.
The documents and recording are not returnable.

1. Resume (if you are Japanese, use a standard resume form.) Please write in your instrument manufacture and your music experience.
2. Recording information (note the date and place of recording)

Saturday, March 11, 2017 (must arrive by this date)
Result announcement
Result will be sent by post no later than Monday, April 3, 2017.
3.Live Audition (Secondary and Final Audition)
Secondary Audition(live audition by horn section) Wednesday, May, 10, 2017 in afternoon (schedule may change)
Large Rehearsal room at 3rd floor of the Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara (1-15, Nakajima-koen, Chuo-ku Sapporo) 

Final Audition by all members of the orchestraThursday, May 11, 2017 in afternoon (schedule may change)
Sapporo Art Park Art Hall Arena (2-chome, Geijutsunomori Minami-ku Sapporo)

Live Audition Repertoire
(1)Mozart: Horn Concerto No. 4 in E-flat majorK.495 with cadenza
(2)R.Strauss: 1st and 2nd movements from Horn Concerto No. 1in E-flat major op. 11
(3)Orchestra study (will be informed to those who passed the preliminary audition)

The orchestra will arrange a piano accompanist, but the applicant can also attend the audition with his/her accompanist. In this case, any fee incurred will be burnt by the applicant. Rehearsals with the accompanist is planned to take place during the morning of the live audition. More details will be informed on a later date.
There will be an interview for those who passed the Secondary Audition

4.Salary and other benefits

Salary 191,400 JPY(age 22) to 279,900JPY (age 40) plus+allowances as the Associate Principal.
(as of April 1, 2016 and salary is based on age and experience)
Additional bonus twice a year
Other benefits: housing, family, cold-area, commuting and instrument. Social welfare, unemployment insurance and retirement allowance are also available.

5.Starting Date
November, 2017- (negotiable)
There will be 6-month evaluation period before official employment.

In principal, applicants must be under age of 40.

2. Preliminary Audition (Recording audition)
Repertoire should be recorded in the listed order with track numbers on DVD-R.

[Audition Repertoire]
(1)Haydn: 1st movement from Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major (before cadenza)
(2) L. Mozart: 1st movement from Trumpet Concerto in D major (before cadenza)

B-flat trumpet for Haydn, and piccolo trumpet for L. Mozart are highly recommended.

The recording must be made within 6 months before the date of application.
The recording must be made with piano accompaniment, but its introduction part can be shortened accordingly.
Place a track number at start of work.
The recording device must be DVD. (Blue-Ray disc is not allowed.)
Confirm the content before submitting. Avoid low volume or any echo in the recording as this may affect the judgement.
